Lot No: 3 of our September 2021 Auction is this superb fresh to the market Buck 245 Tottenham Court Rd made By Norris plane with a good length Ward and Payne snecked iron in crisp condition. The edges of the plane sole and the tight throat have that little used feel to them and all three parts are stamped No: 1 which was a known attribute of Norris planes. This has a lovely original Rosewood infill and the plane body has no evidence of it being touched with any abrasives in the past.
The original patina and surface rust are all there in all its glory for the purist tool collector, but is easy to remove for those who like their planes to look like they are ready to use.
This is a rare little plane but especially in this size and in such good original condition.
Estimate:
Another antique tool that would be hard to place an estimate on due to how few of these planes like this turn up nowadays. I would however, rate amongst one of the best money could buy both for its originality and scarcity. If there was a plane that deserves to exceed £1000+ this would be it, that’s for sure.
