You will be required to register as a member to be able to bid on our auctions, membership also gives you access to areas non-registered users can’t see or use. We are using membership to eradicate the temptation for people who could bid without any intention of buying. This would frustrate genuine buyers & sellers and adds to the costs of running a service such as this. Those familiar with specialised auctions will already be aware it’s usual practice to buy a catalogue before entering. The membership ensures those who participate are genuine and is another method of identifying those who are serious about antique tools from those that aren’t.
It’s just a small annual fee for basic membership that members will easily regain through their interaction and knowledge this website will provide long term.

Bidding:
The auction date is the closing date for what will be a 3 Day auction, where bidders can lay their bids early with the proxy bid system. This is also what is known as a soft-closing auction where bidders can respond to late snipe bids whereby our auction system adds an additional 5 minutes onto an auction end time if any bid is made in the last 10 minutes. Basically, all bidding should have concluded with 10 minutes to go. The highest bidders do need to watch the auctions draw to a close, just in case someone outbids them in that last 10 minutes.
Bidding & Watching:
Members can log into their my-account page anytime and once the auction lots have been uploaded (5 Days prior to the end date) buyers can bid for & watch the tools that most interest them.
Auction Results:
Auction results are shown in the user’s my-account in a separate area called ‘Previous auctions’ and as time goes by the search facility within the my-account area will enable members to quickly compare previous results for condition and prices. We see this as a game-changer in years to come and will be invaluable to antique tool collectors and dealers when needing quick reliable information.
Note: To be clear this will only come into play after our first online auction ending on the 19th September 2021 and build information over time. Previously only old catalogues could be used which are limited in that they give very little picture information regarding the condition.
Many of these old Tony Murland catalogues in PDF form will be available for Silver & Gold Members giving auction estimates which are by no means a way of valuing old tools. Note: Copyrights are reserved and royalties paid as part of the Silver & Gold membership costs.
Buyers Premium
Our buyer’s premium will vary accordingly to the membership chosen. Basic membership charges 15% + Vat, Silver 11.5% + Vat & Gold 8.1% + Vat. This helps those spending more through our auctions as there is less work involved with dealing with multiple lots over many single lots. Likewise, it also encourages a higher final selling price for sellers which means they get a greater share of the final prices paid.
The main purpose of this website is not only to provide clearer images & more reliable information about the antique tools on offer through our online auctions but also to help reduce the online bidding costs that current online services such as ‘the saleroom’ surcharges of 5.95% on top of traditional auction house buyers premiums.
