I guess being a paid member using this forum has its advantages!
It’s been a manic week after the auction with packing and posting all the tools out and processing payments to the tool sellers but it’s nearly completed now.
Many thanks to everyone who bid and who was involved, we have another 6 months now to improve the auction system’s speed, etc. We have learned much from holding this tool auction that we will endeavor to implement these improvements before the next tool auction event.
There were some lovely tools in this first auction and we have spoken to a few buyers who have helped by given us some feedback on what they would like to see in the future.
I think that many were trying to get used to how things worked but with all things considered it was a good starting point and something that can be built upon.
I’m sure likewise as we get used to things we will get this running like a well-oiled machine in time.
I hope those I’ve yet to hear from, enjoyed the tool auction and are happy with what they purchased, especially with all the lots being represented properly with good images, etc.
Kind regards Steve
Hi Ronan,
Yes, you can bid at the last minute but it does add 5 minutes of time to the auction and continues to do so if two or more people do this. It’s not something that will work very well in this type of auction as you still have to outbid any other bids left by others.
Generally, the bidding should be concluded before the last 5 minutes and the system is designed to encourage earlier bids before that time to ensure there is a more relaxed approach to it.
The earlier people know they have been outbid on an item, this gives them more time to find an alternative tool or something else they may have had their eye on rather than leaving the auction empty-handed.
With so many nice tools, most people have a budget and they put together a priority list in their watchlist. They bid their max bid on what’s on top of their lists and if they get outbid then they have alternatives.
It’s better to know early whether you are going to win something or not for this reason.
I hope this helps.
Regards Steve
Well, today the 16th of September and the tool auction is finally upon us, the auction items start turning on live at 6 pm GMT tonight ready to receive bids.
There were improvements made as late as 12 pm last night finalising small tweaks that no one will notice but hopefully when needed makes things clearer.
Maybe we might get to speak to a few members that get time on here to discuss some of the lots on offer? I’m more than happy to answer any questions.
Anyway, we got there for this first stage of development and hope you like what you see so far.
Good luck everyone, I hope you have fun and win the tools you are after!
Many new members but still no activity in this forum, I guess this might take a little longer to establish.
Well I’m here should anyone have something to discuss.
Preview of a Norris A1 Jointer plane that will be listed in Septembers auction.
There are more images that will be added to the auction listing with close up details etc.
Hi Gary,
Thanks for joining it much appreciated.
Online forums do take a while to get properly going as they are a bit like a chicken and egg scenario where many people wait for content before they get involved.
We are nearly ready with the site to start with our newsletters to encourage earlier sign ups to make clear the membership includes two auctions per year regardless when people join.
I’ve been concentrating on the user experience with making the site suitable for most devices and browsers which has been quite a large task.
We are now working on two more areas to make it easier for users to follow the auctions as they end and a management screen to gain a better picture over the live events. We also want to add more features that will accommodate traditional phone absent bids and live text alerts.
The website will evolve and improve over time but it’s a big task that is taking all my spare time to get this site to where it is today. I really need to start on the content aspect which should start soon now we are taking images for September’s auction.
Anyway with some help from some friends in the industry and those as passionate about it we can hopefully get this show on the road.
Regards Steve
Merry Christmas everyone although I have to say not so merry for some who find themselves in Tier 4 areas where its effectively a continuation of the UK national lockdown.
This continued Covid scenario reminds me of the saying ‘is the cure of the illness worse than the illness itself’!
Anyway whatever your situation stay positive, this time next year we could all be looking back at this and appreciating our freedoms in a different light.
So we are now coming out of a national lock-down to find that the government has now replaced most of the country with more tiered restrictions. How can any business make plans? News on the role out of vaccines is good news and I hope it can be rolled out quickly, to whom, where and when is the burning question.
Hi John,
Good to have a new member on board, I’ve got to free up a bit more time to work on the website but I’m restricted with only doing 1 day per week at the moment due to being so busy with Tooltique.
I’ve yet to send out emails to our mailing list to tell them everything is working and ready to go.
But hopefully whilst there is little action you will start to find your way around the admin and how things work.
Regards Steve
Thanks Michel, yes you are indeed an early bird to this website and we are working hard behind the scenes to bring together the website functions before we send out invitation emails to all those who have joined our mailing lists.
As you can appreciate there is lots of testing and setting up before we can give this a proper push with advertising ready for next year. The website is currently working its way up the Google rankings and bringing a few new views so I really need to spend some more time on the content that will interest new members with increasing membership.
I can also say we are also working on getting together a nice collection of interesting antique and collectable tools ready for our first auction. I’m sure this will be the spark that will encourage others to join up and use what has been put together.
At least the forum is working as it should , there will be more changes and features being added later but this has to be done as I get time between running Tooltique, buying and selling the user grade tools in Tooltique. I really could do with a longer day and 10 days a week.
In the mean time if you have any questions of suggestions please let me know.
Kind Regards Steve
As with all forums they do take a while to get off the ground but the great thing about them is that until they do you can always come back at a later date to review any responses and continue with any interaction.
It’s certainly strange writing on here before we get members joining but i guess this will be read and of some use in the future.
