Lot No: 11 in our September 2021 auction is a rare antique beechwood and brass coachmaker’s plough plane typically unmarked by the maker in good used condition. The iron is right for this plane and the brass guide moves freely and sets properly with the screws.
This is certainly a rare plane which is a rare survivor and probably dates to around the 18th century. The convex guide is a later mahogany replacement, but this would have originally been interchangeable with a range of beechwood circumference guides.
Estimate:
Due to their rarity its nearly impossible to give an estimate, however this plane should be one that fetches a price of £500+ and I wouldn’t be surprised if it went far beyond this figure if two people wanted it.
