Lot No: 4 in our September 2021 Auction is this good example of a Pre-War Norris A3 smoothing plane with a good length Marples & Sons parallel iron. The plane is in good condition and the adjuster has been tested to ensure it works properly.
This looks to have been a well loved user plane that has been looked after but as you can appreciate the replacement iron was probably a replacement when the original one was fully used.
Estimate: £250-350
This plane is probably 100 years old and if compared with modern premium planes is like comparing night and day. Should these be worth a lot more than something made today? Bet your bottom dollar they should! These are superb planes that aren’t abundant or are there enough of these around for everyone involved in woodworking to own one. When fully set up and fettled in, these are a joy to use and great value.
Antique tool collectors need to understand that the prices of these need to rise sharply to stop them going back into service.
